In the fall of 2007 we became the first brewery on the East coast to use a solar energy hot water system to brew our beer. Our 30 panel solar system produces 1000 gallons of hot water daily for use in our brewery and restaurant. Solar Brewed Beer is available to go in 22oz. bottles of 64oz. growlers.
Grain Loft - Malted barley is stored here and then is gently cracked. After milling, is is sent to the Mash Tun.
Mash Tun - The cracked malt is mixed with hot water to create a mash. Starches in the malt are broken down into a rich sugary solution called WORT. After conversionthe WORT is run off to the boiling kettle.
Brew Kettle - The WORT is boiled and hops are added for flavor. After boiling the WORT is quickly cooled in a heat exchanger and sent to a conical vessel in the Fermentation Cellar
Fermentation Cellar - Special beer yeast is added to the WORT to begin the fermentation process. During the ten days of fermentation the yeast consumes the sugars of the brew creating carbon dioxide and alcohol.
Serving Tanks - After fermentation the beer is pushed over to the serving tanks. In these tanks the beer is carbonated and then it is ready to serve. These 220 gallon tanks are directly connected to the taps at our bar. Enjoy our fresh brewed beer responsibly!
